Use prenatal massage to manage your aches and pains during pregnancy

By David Sanda, RMT

Pregnancy is an exciting time in your life. It can be filled with joy, but unfortunately pain and aches. You may be experiencing:

  • general aches and pains all over
  • sciatica pain
  • sway back
  • ankle and wrist swelling
  • headaches

While these types of issues can be expected during pregnancy, it doesn’t have to define this important time in your life.

Massage therapy has proven time and time again to be an amazing aid in pregnancy. Regular prenatal massages can help you relax, but may also relieve insomnia, joint pain, neck and back pain, leg cramping and sciatica.

As a massage therapist, I have personally seen the effects it can have in mitigating sciatic nerve irritation, decreasing joint inflammation and relieving headaches and shoulder tension. During a time of stress, it can also be important to take time for yourself to relax and unwind.

Prenatal Massage at Movement Performance & Health

If you’ve never had a prenatal massage, you are likely wonder: how do I lay for a massage when pregnant?

At Movement Performance & Health, we use a special pregnancy massage table which enables you to lay down on your stomach with a net to support your belly so you feel safe and secure.

If you don’t feel comfortable lying face down, we also offer “side lying” massage where we use pillows to support your legs, head and stomach.

Throughout your prenatal massage, your comfort and health are our number one priority.
