Therapeutic Fire Cupping Therapy

Chinese medicine practitioners have been using therapeutic fire cupping for thousands of years to treat a wide range of health issues.  It is designed to help the body reduce inflammation by using suction.  Think of it like getting a massage in reverse, just another way of attacking the muscles. The cups are pulling and stretching the muscle tissue instead of pushing and compressing it. Therapeutic fire cupping can help relieve muscle tension, tightness, pain and stiffness. It can also help with blood flow, inflammation and relaxation.

Your therapist uses a flame to draw out the oxygen in a glass cup before quickly placing it upside down on your body. The action is relatively quick, so you don’t feel the heat. As the cup cools, it creates a vacuum. This causes your skin to rise and redden as your blood vessels expand. The suction pulls toxins from deep within the tissue to the surface were it is more easily expelled from the body. The intensity of the redness will lessen as the deeper issues are resolved and the toxins have been flushed out of the body via the circulatory system.  The marks may look painful, but they are not.

Therapeutic fire cupping is a great treatment to incorporate with your massage therapy work or do all on it’s own.
